KCR had started his fast to death for Telangana's statehood on that day in 2009.
BRS working president K T Rama Rao today said that former Chief Minister and party president K Chandrashekar Rao had played a pivotal role in the Telangana movement, and urged all party cadres to actively participate in the anniversary on November 29 of the day in 2009 that the latter had started his fast to death for statehood for the Telangana region.
Speaking to media persons at Telangana Bhavan, KTR said that KCR's hoisting the pink flag on April 27, 2001, marked the beginning of the final phase of the movement for Telangana statehood, and reflected the aspirations of the people of the region.
KTR added that November 29 of 2009 marked a significant turning point in the separate Telangana movement. "This day holds historic importance as it was the day on which the foundation for realizing the dream of Swarajya was laid. On that day, KCR started his fast-to-death for statehood, and the three crore people of the region raised their voices in unison supporting the movement. Deeksha Diwas represents KCR's unwavering determination to achieve Telangana, that shook the political system of the nation from Kashmir to Kanyakumari, and united the political landscape, cutting across caste and creed," he said.
"On November 29, we will once again commemorate the fast as Deeksha Diwas grandly across all our 33 district party offices. We will respond strongly to the national parties, and I urge all party cadres to actively participate in the celebrations. Senior leaders have been appointed as in-charges for all districts, and preparatory meetings will be conducted in each district by key leaders to engage with party activists," he said.
"The Deeksha Diwas celebrations will culminate on December 9 with the unveiling of a statue of Telangana Thalli in Medchal. This will be an occasion to pay tribute to Telangana Thalli," he added, and said that all MLAs, MLCs and MPs would participate in the program.
KTR also called for another Sankalpa Deeksha to "protect" the four crore people of Telangana from the Congress. "During the united Andhra Pradesh under the Congress rule, every section of society faced dire conditions. Unfortunately, those same challenges are resurfacing. The repression, miserable conditions and alarming scenarios are back. Inspired by KCR, who bent Delhi's political will to achieve Telangana, we must now counter the Delhi-based national parties once again."
KTR warned that if the Congress were to return to power again, life in Telangana would regress, leaving farmers, auto-rickshaw drivers, construction workers and others to suffer. "It is time to safeguard the progress we've achieved and secure a brighter future for Telangana," he concluded.
