The Telangana government today urged the Centre to bring home safely the people of the state including students stranded in Ukraine, which is in the middle of a war with Russia.
The state government informed the Centre that it would bear all the expenditure for airlifting Telangana's people from the war-torn nation.
IT & Industries Minister K T Rama Rao made an appeal to this effect on Twitter to union external affairs minister Jaishankar.
Meanwhile, a helpline has been set up at Telangana Bhavan in New Delhi and in the Secretariat in Hyderabad to help the citizens of the state stranded in Ukraine.
Chief Secretary Somesh Kumar held a teleconference with the GAD Principal Secretary Vikas Raj and Resident Commissioner, Telangana Bhavan, Gaurav Uppal today and took stock of the situation.
He said that 75 calls had been received so far on the helpline.
He added that the state government was in constant touch with the union external affairs ministry, and was taking all possible steps to ensure the safety and security of the Telangana people in Ukraine.
