A team of officials from the Krishna River Management Board (KRMB), which recently submitted its
interim report on the construction of the Rayalaseema Lift Irrigation Project (LIP) by the Andhra Pradesh government to the National Green Tribunal (NGT), today visited the Rayalaseema LIP and some other project sites in Kurnool district.
Following the orders of the NGT, the team visited the site of the Muchumarri LIP and the Rayalaseema LIP near Pothireddypadu in the district.
The team will submit a report to the tribunal and the Telangana High Court after completing its inspections. For this, it will be visiting project sites tomorrow as well.
The NGT has told the KRMB to submit the report by August 13.
It is pertinent to point out that the AP government had recently told the river board delegation not to include any members from Telangana in the inspections. Making clear its displeasure at the inclusion of one Devender Rao, a native of Telangana, in the delegation, it had demanded that a new member be nominated in Rao's place.
The NGT had also issued similar orders and asked the board to not include anybody from either of the two Telugu states in the inspection team.
Following this, the board had assured both the NGT and the two Telugu states that it would inspect the project only after the nomination of a new member.
