As the water feud between the two Telugu states continues to rage on, some TDP MLAs from Andhra Pradesh today urged Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao to withdraw a letter written by the latter about the Veligonda Project, located in Prakasam district's Markapur, to the Krishna River Management Board (KRMB) and the Centre.
In the letter, MLAs Gottipati Ravi Kumar, Yeluri Sambasiva Rai and Dola Bala Veeranjaneya Swamy asked the CM why he had thought that the project had been completed without the requisite permissions.
They claimed that it was the failure of the YSR Congress Party government that it had not taken steps for the inclusion of the project in the Centre's gazette, and then clarified that the Centre had approved six irrigation projects in AP as per the AP Reorganisation Act.
Faulting the Jagan government for the whole issue, the MLAs alleged that the regime had not taken any steps to provide the details of the irrigation project to the Centre which was what had kept it from being included in the gazette.
Urging KCR to withdraw the letter, the MLAs then added that it was "not proper" for him to lodge a complaint against AP's projects with the Modi government as it had left the farmers of Prakasam district worried.
This letter comes days after the two state governments sparred, yet again, on the water sharing issue with AP CM Y S Jaganmohan Reddy urging the KRMB to distribute the waters of the Krishna in a
70:30 ratio between the two Telugu states, with 70% being allotted to AP and the remaining 30% to Telangana. While the KCR government had urged the board to allot the water in a 50:50 ratio, the AP administration was quick to oppose the demand.
