The Telangana government today alleged that neighbouring Andhra Pradesh was "illegally taking water away" from the Srisailam reservoir.
In a letter addressed to the Krishna River Management Board (KRMB), the irrigation department's Engineer-in-Chief (General), C Muralidhar, urged the KRMB to stop AP from diverting water from the Srisailam reservoir through three unauthorised projects.
He voiced his objection to the alleged attempts of the AP government to "take away 54 TMC" of water from the project where only 39.09 TMC had been allocated to the state.
Further, the official informed the board that the Jagan regime was "violating norms" by constructing three "illegal" projects at Muchumarri, Malyala and Banakacharla to divert the waters, and appealed to it to stop the "illegal drawing of water" to the Sunkeshula and Handrinvia canals.
"Three unauthorised projects being run by AP, coupled with its existing utilisation excesses, has already affected water availability to several projects in Telangana that depend on Srisailam such as the Nagarjuna Sagar project and even Hyderabad's water supply system," he claimed.
"AP is violating several norms by unfairly taking away more water than was allocated to it. Please ensure that this does not continue," Muralidhar added.
Currently, a team of KRMB officials are in the process of
inspecting some project sites in AP. They will soon submit a report to the NGT on their findings.
