Municipal Administration and IT Minister K T Rama Rao today said that Rs 1,200 crore was being spent for providing potable water to villages beyond the Outer Ring Road (ORR).

Speaking on the occasion, he claimed that the TRS government had taken all possible measures to address the water woes of the city, and was preparing to meet the future needs of the city too based on the population projections for 2051.
As part of that, the government with the GHMC was now planning to spend Rs 1,200 crore to provide purified drinking waters to the colonies outside the ORR, he said.
He added that another Rs 587 crore had been spent to provide water to the colonies near the Manikonda and Alkapuri areas under Phase-II to get them purified water.
The minister also said that Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao planned to shift water from the Kondapochamma reservoir to the Gandipet lake (Osman Sagar) to address future needs of the city.
"We also plan to construct another water line from Sunkishala near the Krishna river to cater to the future needs of the city and its outskirts," the minister added.
The minister said that before the united AP bifurcation, the water board used to see the protests by women with empty pots all the time. Now however the entire state got water through Mission Bhagiratha due to the vision of the Chief Minister to deliver potable waters to every village.
