Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy today appealed to Union Jal Shakti Minister C R Patil to allocate Rs 10,000 crore under the National River Conservation Plan for the Musi Riverfront Development project of the Telangana government.
The CM met union ministers C R Patil, Hardeep Singh Puri and Prahlad Joshi separately in New Delhi today, and brought many issues related to Telangana to their notice.
In his meeting with Patil, the CM explained to him the State government's focus on developing the 55 km Musi riverfront in Hyderabad.
Reddy said that all the dirty water in Hyderabad was reaching the Musi and that the State government had decided to clean it, and asked the union minister to extend support for the Musi Riverfront Development project which included cleaning the dirty water, construction of flood water canals, raising the water level and beautifying the river.
As the union government was planning for the conservation and development of rivers in the Deccan plateau under the National River Conservation Plan, the Centre should allocate Rs 10,000 crore - Rs 4,000 crore for cleaning the Musi river water and Rs 6,000 crore for the projects intended to fill Osman Sagar and Himayat Sagar with Godavari waters, Reddy said.
"If these two ponds are filled with Godavari waters, Hyderabad's water woes will be solved and the Musi river will be revived," the CM said.
Reddy also appealed to Patil to release Rs 16,100 crore to Telangana under the Jal Jeevan Mission.
According to the calculations of 2019, under the Jal Jeevan Mission, 77.6% of the houses in Telangana were getting piped water, and in a recent survey it was found that 7.85 lakh houses did not have piped connection, Reddy said, giving the basis for the request.
Later, Reddy met Union Minister for Petroleum and Natural Gas Hardeep Singh Puri and requested him to provide pay the subsidy of Rs 500 per cylinder to Oil Marketing Companies (OMC) in advance in Telangana.
In another meeting, Reddy appealed to Union Food and Civil Supplies Minister Prahlad Joshi to immediately release the arrears for paddy collection and rice supply.
Deputy CM Bhatti Vikramarka, Irrigation Minister N Uttam Kumar Reddy and Congress MPs accompanied the CM.
