Congress leader and former Chevella MP Konda Vishweshwar Reddy today formally announced his resignation from the party. His statement follows his announcement about his decision of taking a
three-month-long break from politics on Monday, March 15.
In the statement, the prominent industrialist said that he had conveyed his decision to TPCC chief N Uttam Kumar Reddy some time back, and explained why he had refrained from making an official declaration of his intentions.
"I had informed Uttam Kumar Reddy of my decision to resign from the party. I did not however make a formal announcement immediately as he had asked me to postpone the same for some time. Out of my respect for my former party, I agreed to do so as this might have had a negative impact on the party's prospects in the
recently-held MLC elections. However, there is no point in delaying things anymore since the media has already publicised the matter," the former MP said.
Talking about his political future, he added, "My aim is to work for the people of Telangana and I will continue to do so irrespective of my party affiliations. Before I disclose any more details about my future political plans, I will first meet my aides after two or three months to discuss whether I should float a new party to oppose the rule of the TRS, or whether I should join an existing party strong enough to do so. I would like to clarify that though I have myself decided to leave the Congress, I will not be influencing any other leaders to follow in my footsteps if I do launch a new party."
Reddy then expressed his gratitude to all the Congress leaders, who had extended their support to him during his stint with the party
