In another blow to an already-weak Congress in Telangana, former MP from Chevella, Konda Vishweshwar Reddy, today left many puzzled when he announced that he would be taking a three-month-long break from politics.
Speaking on the occasion, he said, "I am not yet resigning from the Congress, and will remain active in politics. I am distancing myself from my party to keep my options open. I may choose to float my own party to fight the TRS, or I may simply wait to see if the Congress can gain the strength to oppose it. My break will also allow me to rejuvenate one of my business enterprises that has recently incurred huge losses."
"If the Congress can transform itself in the next three months, I will definitely continue my association with it," the former MP added.
He said that he might even re-join the TRS if it underwent "drastic changes", but quickly clarified that he was only joking.
Although Reddy clarified that he would not be joining the party's arch rival, the BJP, after his break, the move has given rise to much speculation in Telangana's political circles that his break is a harbinger of his intention to do exactly that.
It is pertinent to mention here that the Congress currently has just six MLAs in the 119-member Assembly. Though the party had won 19 seats in the 2018 Assembly elections, several leaders have defected since then
