Loathe to be left out of the political competition to win the votes of the farmers, Kiran Kumar Reddy is launching a 15-day program named Raitu Chaitanya Yatra in Sangareddy, Medak, on Tuesday.
While Congress members are making a beeline for Congress In-Charge for AP Affairs Ghulam Nabi Azad (who will leave Hyderabad later on Tuesday),
criticising the KKR regime, the CM himself is pre-occupied with launching a yatra for the farmers.
Raitu Chaitanya Yatra, which will be conducted till June 2nd and cover 5,083 villages, reportedly aims to prepare the farmers of the state for the Kharif season.
Minister for Higher Education and Agriculture (In-Charge) Damodar Raja explained that the program intends to prepare farmers for Kharif by disseminating information regarding new agricultural procedures and about the use of pesticides.
Telangana leaders were quick to react to the proposed Raitu Chaitanya Yatra, and declared that they would disrupt the program in Telangana.
Telugu Desam Party (TDP) President N Chandrababu Naidu and YSR Congress Party Chief Y S Jaganmohan Reddy are already in the fray, having launched their respective programs to highlight the plight of the state's farmers.
However, the farmers in Guntur, who
lost their chilli stocks to raging flames lament that no political leader truly cares about farmers. A distressed farmer charged that the politicos of the state conduct protests and hunger strikes for their personal benefit and not because they wish to help the farmers. The farmers state that the fact that the victims of the month-old fire accident at the Sai Surya Cold Storage not receiving their compensation packages is a case in point.
