Munneru Retaining Wall To Be Completed Soon
Minister Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy said that RCC concrete walls were being built on both sides of the Munneru river to protect Khammam city from floods.
Telangana Revenue Minister Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy and Irrigation Minister Uttam Kumar Reddy today directed the concerned officials to expedite the construction of the Munneru retaining wall and permanently safeguard Khammam from flood risks.
The ministers jointly held a review meeting with officials at the Secretariat to assess the progress of the retaining wall project. The meeting was attended by Principal Secretary (Irrigation) Rahul Bojja, Special Secretary Prashant Jeevan Patil, ENC Anil Kumar and other officials.
Addressing the meeting, Srinivas Reddy said that a wall of approximately 23 km was being constructed to benefit the residents of the Khammam and Paleru Assembly constituencies.
He said that RCC concrete walls were being constructed on both sides of the river to protect Khammam city from the Munneru floods. He advised officials to ensure that the wall channelled floodwaters effectively, preventing any possibility of flooding.
"The land acquisition process and construction of the retaining wall should be expedited. I will personally monitor the progress twice a month. In the next two or three days, I will also review the situation with the Khammam district officials," the minister said.
He instructed officials to promptly report any challenges encountered during the construction, and emphasized that the wall needed to be built considering the impact of the floods that had occurred from 1969 to September 2024.
