The Khairatabad Maha Ganapati immersion was done in a grand manner in the Hussain Sagar around 1:30 pm today after performing the last puja at crane number 4 located on NTR Marg.
The idol entered the lap of water amidst chants of "Jai Bolo Ganesh Maharaj Ki Jai" by devotees.
The Ganesh Shobha Yatra started at 6 am, and the Maha Ganapati idol arrived at crane number 4 at 12 noon. It was immersed after an hour of welding work.
A large number of devotees gathered for the Maha Ganapati immersion, and the surrounding areas of the Tank Bund were a sea of people. Huge cranes were used for the immersion.
While the idol was being immersed in the "Vinayak Sagar" at noon, sudden heavy rains lashed several parts of the capital city including Basheerbagh, M J Market, Tank Bund, the Saroornagar Mini Tank Bund, Musheerabad, Chikkadpally, Domalguda, Kavadiguda, Bholakpur, Gandhi Nagar, Ramnagar, Adikmet, Addagutta, Marredpally, Sitaphalmandi, Bowenpally, Prakash Nagar, Ranigunj, Paradise and other areas. The devotees near Tank Bund darted around caught unawares, and most of them gathered under the Telugu Thalli flyover. However, the immersion of the Ganesh idols went on peacefully despite the rain.
