TPCC President & MP A Revanth Reddy today condemned Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao's remarks proposing a new Constitution for the country.
Addressing the media in New Delhi, Reddy said that KCR's views on changing the Constitution of India were in fact those of the BJP.
He said that the BJP had been conspiring to change the Constitution drafted by Dr B R Ambedkar, and this time got KCR to speak about it.
He said the Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes and Backward Classes had been enjoying reservations and other benefits only because of the present Constitution, and that the BJP wanted to change the Constitution to deprive those communities of those benefits. And while KCR was always inclined towards the BJP's ideology, this time he came out in the open.
The TPCC chief said the Constitution of India was considered the best in the entire world. Some provisions could be amended, and so far it has been done 105 times. But by proposing a wholesale change of the Constitution, KCR had displayed his disrespect and hatred for Dr Ambedkar and the SC, ST, BC and other weaker communities, Reddy claimed.
Reddy said that the Congress cadre had been directed to burn KCR's effigies across Telangana near the statues of Dr Ambedkar, to protest the CM's statement. He also said that a 48-hour agitation would also be launched on Thursday demanding that KCR withdraw his remarks and tender an unconditional apology for them.
Revanth Reddy also derided KCR for addressing a press conference for two hours and 34 hours to react to the budget speech of Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman which lasted only 90 minutes.
He also said that there was nothing new in KCR's presser.
"He did not raise any new demand. He did not speak about the promises made in the Andhra Pradesh Reorganisation Act which the BJP government did not fulfil in the last eight years. He was silent about the Railway Coach Factory at Kazipet, the Steel Factory at Bayyaram and the tribal university," Reddy said.
The TPCC chief also objected to the unparliamentary language used by KCR against Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman and Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
He said that the use of abusive language against a female minister, who also happened to hail from a Telugu state, was unpardonable.
He also said KCR needed to give respect to Narendra Modi as the latter held the post of Prime Minister. He said that despite having serious ideological and political differences with Modi, the Congress leaders never used offensive language against the Prime Minister.
Reddy also said that the use of abusive language was not part of Telangana's culture, and that by hurling abuse at PM Modi and Finance Minister Sitharaman, KCR had insulted the culture and values of Telangana.
