TPCC president Revanth Reddy today said that Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao had adopted a dominant attitude after the formation of Telangana State, and that the people had not got the freedom, equality and equal development that they had fought for, for the last 10 years under KCR's rule.
Addressing media persons, Reddy said, "If you look at the history of Telangana, it has endured hunger, but had not mortgaged its self-respect. That is why there was the armed peasant struggle against the autocratic rule of the Nizam. And now, there will be a similar revolt at the ballot boxes to overthrow the autocratic CM."
He said that the Congress manifesto had been prepared to fulfil the aspirations of the people of Telangana, and that the party's goal was good governance and not power. That was why a key point was bringing back the Praja Darbar programs held by the Congress governments in the past if the party came to power in the State.
Reddy said that the party's priorities were different in different States as they depended on the incomes of the respective States. For example, he said, while KCR was crowing about a Rs 2,000 pension, in Karnataka more money was being transferred to women along with pension.
He also said that KCR had a long history of not delivering on his promises, and that the CM owed Rs 1.8 lakh crore to the poor in the last 60 months for his broken promises. He also alleged that a large-scale land grab had been done in the name of the Dharani portal, and that one lakh acres of lands of the Nizam's descendants around Hyderabad had changed hands, and that that was the reason that KCR was worried when the Congress said that it would abolish the Dharani portal - that he would get exposed.
Targeting the BJP, he said that it was an insult to the OBCs that the BJP, which did not even get its deposits in 110 Assembly seats in the previous elections, was promising to make a BC member as the next CM. He said that the weaker sections were keen to defeat KCR, and that the BJP's strategy was to divide the BC votes and help KCR.
"Venkaiah Naidu had held a meeting on the classification of BCs into A-B-C-D and said that the exercise would be completed within 100 days. There is no progress on the issue even after so many years. And the Congress is saying that it will support the SC categorisation bill, but the BJP is not taking steps in that direction. It is surprising that the BJP, despite that kind of a track record, is claiming to be a champion of the BCs," he said.
"I appeal to Manda Krishna. Let's go to Delhi. Let me tell PM Modi that we will support the ordinance on the SC categorisation. If the union government wants, they can issue an ordinance within 48 hours. We will support Manda Krishna if he declares his plan of action without believing false promises," he added.
