Senior Congress leader Mallikarjun Kharge on Friday alleged that Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao was toeing the line of Prime Minister Narendra Modi as could be seen by the fact that he had extended unconditional support to every decision of Modi.
Addressing media persons at Gandhi Bhavan, Kharge, the MP of Gulbarga (Karnataka) and Leader Of Opposition in the Lok Sabha, said, "Be it the note ban (demonetization), the GST, the attacks on dalits and minorities of the country, or the revision of GDP growth figures, KCR has always supported the BJP-led NDA government at the Centre."
Kharge also said that scores of youngsters had sacrificed their lives for the formation of Telangana with the hope that statehood for the region would fulfill their aspirations for jobs, water and funds. However, KCR and the TRS had failed to fulfill those aspirations, and the promises the TRS had made during the statehood movement and the 2014 election campaign.
Kharge also slammed the BJP, saying that the only goal of that party was to dilute all the democratic institutions in the country. He alleged that the BJP was trying to make important institutions - the CBI, the ED and the Election Commission - toe its line. He also added that the BJP had refused to heed the Congress's demand to appoint the CBI chief according to the rules.
