KCR To Inaugurate Konda Pochamma Sagar Project On Friday

Hyderabad | 27th May 2020
Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao will inaugurate the Konda Pochamma Sagar project in Siddipet district on Friday at 11:30 am.

As part of the Kaleswaram project, the Konda Pochamma Sagar project will see the Godavari waters pumped to the highest level yet.

The waters from the Godavari river, lifted in various stages from the Lakshmi Barrage (Medigadda), will be pumped into the Konda Pochamma Sagar reservoir, which is at a height of 618 meters.

From the reservoir, which has a capacity of 15 TMC, through gravity, water will be supplied to the hitherto arid lands, which had no irrigation water facility till date.

There is a special reason for naming this project Konda Pochamma Sagar. There is a Konda Pochamma temple at the border of the erstwhile united Medak, Warangal and Nalgonda districts. Konda Pochamma has lakhs of devotees in the region, many of whom come daily and offer prayers. The deity has the reputation of taking care of Her devotees' needs.

There is also a Komuravelli Mallikarjuna (Mallanna) temple in the vicinity. Both the temples are popular, and visited by lots of devotees - there is a tradition of devotees visiting one temple making sure that they visit the other, too.

This is the reason KCR named the biggest reservoir constructed under the Kaleswaram project as Mallanna Sagar, and the reservoir constructed at the highest point as Konda Pochamma Sagar.

KCR reportedly treats the project as a temple, and the arrangements for its inauguration have been made in tune with this. Chandi Yagam, Sudarsana Yagam, Gangamma pooja and other related rituals will be performed as part of the inauguration of the project. At 4 am on May 29, a Chandi Yagam will be performed in the Konda Pochamma temple, and a Sudarsana Yagam at the Konda Pochamma Sagar pump house simultaneously. At 7 am, KCR and his wife will offer special poojas at the Konda Pochamma temple, which is 30 km from the project. They will participate in the Poornahuthi as part of the Chandi Yagam. They will take Thirtha Prasadams offered by the priests, and blessings from Vedic scholars. From there, they will reach their farmhouse in Erravelli.

The CM will inaugurate Rythu Vedikas at Erravelli and Markuk after 9 am. Later he will reach the pump house, which will lift waters to the Konda Pochamma Sagar reservoir at Markuk. There he will welcome "Tridandi" Chinna Jeeyar Swami who will reach the pump house at 10 am.

The CM will then participate in the Poornahuthi program of the Sudarsana Yagam, and then switch on the pumphouse. He will then visit the project's discharge canal to welcome the Godavari waters, and perform pooja to the Godavari Gangamma.

Later he will bid farewell to Chinna Jeeyar Swami. A lunch with specially invited guests will be organised there later.
