Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao held a high-level review meeting at his camp office today to discuss the High Court voiding the government's appointment of Vice-Chancellors for state universities, and the controversial EAMCET-2 paper leak.
These and several other issues have apparently destabilized the functioning of State government.
The Chief Minister discussed today's protests by the EAMCET top rankers and their parents against the cancellation of the exam. Keeping them in mind, he reportedly weighed his options including scrapping the examination as a whole.
According to reports filed by the CID and Telangana DGP Anurag Sharma, there is a worrying increase in the number of students indulging in malpractice. These students allegedly paid Rs 30 lakhs and above for the original paper. Investigations are on to find out whether EAMCET-1, too, was leaked, and whether the scam was confined only to Telangana.
On the topic of the government's appointment of Vice-Chancellors for State universities, the Chief Minister discussed the High Court's quashing its GOs for the appointment of the VCs, and the option of moving the Supreme Court.
Deputy Chief Minister Kadiam Srihari, Health Minister Dr C Lakshma Reddy, ministers Pocharam Srinivas Reddy and Talasani Srinivas Yadav, the Vice-Chancellors of various universities, and other officials attended the meeting.
