Several rankholders in EAMCET-2 and their parents staged a protest on Thursday in front of the Secretariat demanding that the government not cancel the test.
Parents and students came in droves and raised slogans demanding resignation of the Health Minister and interference of Chief Minister KCR in this matter. They also said that they would file a lawsuit if necessary.
Stating that the students secured top ranks through honest toil, the protestors requested the State government not to invalidate the results, as writing the test afresh would be unaffordable to many.
"Thousands of honest students need not suffer for the crimes of a few. The culprits should be removed from the rank list. Counselling sessions should go on unhindered," demanded Rammohan, the parent of a rankholder.
"I have written EAMCET thrice and am completely stressed out. Since I secured a high rank in EAMCET-2, I didn't take NEET. If this exam gets cancelled, honest students like me will suffer. I request the Health Minister and the CM not to cancel EAMCET-2," urged Meghana, a student from Hyderabad who secured the 450th rank.
Various political parties, activists and student unions extended moral support to the protestors. They demanded that Medical & Health Minister C Lakshma Reddy step down over the test leak on moral grounds. They also called upon Deputy Chief Minister and Education Minister Kadiam Srihari and urged him not to re-conduct EAMCET-2. They urged the government to be fair and just to the honest rankholders.
In Kukatpally, activists of the BJP Yuva Morcha staged a dharna at JNTU and demanded strict action against the culprits. They demanded that the TRS government own up to its "incompetence" which had left several students, who were at a critical juncture in their career, confused and anxious. Effigies of the government's leaders were set on fire by the activists, resulting in preventive detention of several of them.
Later, the government stated that a decision would be taken only after a careful examination of the report which is to be produced by the State's Criminal Investigation Department.
