Striking an emotional chord in the backward Mahabubnagar district that he said was neglected for decades in the irrigation sector by successive governments, Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao today said that he was getting a rare opportunity to serve the people better and share their difficult times.
"We will quench the thirst of the people who were put to untold misery and hardship for each drop of water, and cleanse the feet of Palamur through the Krishna waters," he declared.
Unveiling a pylon for the much-awaited Palamur Lift Irrigation Project and laying the foundation stone at Bhootpur on Thursday, the CM declared that works would begin only after filling the stomachs of the people getting displaced for the project.
Only three tribal hamlets were getting affected by the project, and all the families in them would get jobs and two-bedroom houses to make up, he promised. He directed the district Collector to conduct a special drive to provide jobs to people of the affected families.
Taking a dig at successive governments for showing neglecting the district which became famous for people migrating from it, KCR announced that his government was committed to spend Rs 35,200 crores for the completion of the project.
Upon completion, the Palamur project would irrigate seven lakh acres in the Mahabubnagar district and another three lakh acres in the Ranga Reddy district, and provide drinking water, he said.
KCR said that the Karivena and Vattem villages would get water in two years, and the entire Palamur would get abundant water and lush greenery in four years.
He also said that he would inspect the works once in two weeks by staying in a guest house nearby. (NSS)
