The government had bought saris by the kilos from Surat, Telangana Congress leaders alleged.

Displaying the Bathukamma saris before the media, Congress leaders T Jeevan Reddy and Komatireddy Venkat Reddy today alleged that the Telangana government had mortgaged the self-respect of the Telangana women by distributing poor quality saris.
Speaking to the media on Tuesday, Jeevan Reddy said that the sari scheme was just a ploy by the government to cover up its irregularities, and that was the reason that it was done more for optics than for genuinely benefiting the people, as was visible from the fact that the government had bought saris by the kilos from Surat. The value of a sari would not exceed Rs 100, and a blouse was worth no more than Rs. 10, he claimed.
The labourers had gotten angry as they had got a sari worth just Rs 100 while losing Rs 200 in daily wages. And instead of assuaging them, the government was busy filing cases against the Congress activists, he alleged. He said that there was no place where there were no protests, and it was unfair to target a few Congress activists in a few places. He asked the government to withdraw the cases against the Congress activists and order a judicial inquiry instead into the issue.
He also demanded that the government give Rs 1,000 to each family to buy a good quality sari if it really intended that they have one.
Komatireddy alleged that KCR was behaving like a dictator and playing games with women through the sari scheme when he was the same CM who was increasing wine shops in the state. He alleged that the Bathukamma saris were a big scam, and asked the TRS leaders to play Bathukuthada while wearing the saris.
He also said that he was ready to contest for the MP seat of the Nalgonda constituency. "I will win by a greater majority than the Warangal MP," he said.
