Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao today instructed the officials concerned to prepare all the information required for the upcoming meeting of the Krishna River Management Board (KRMB) on water and power generation disputes.
He called a high-level meeting with officials at the Pragati Bhavan where he discussed the Palamuru-Rangareddy Lift Irrigation Scheme works and some "illegal" irrigation project works in neighbouring Andhra Pradesh.
During the meeting, the CM took stock of the current situation on the water row after the AP government recently sought the Centre's intervention in the conflict.
He reportedly expressed his disappointment at the Jagan regime for violating the norms of the construction of irrigation projects and asked the officials to fight for state's rightful share of water and its right to generate hydro-electric power in the Krishna basin.
The officials informed him that the AP government had been attempting to hinder all power generation attempts and the water distribution process as well. They stated that the government had not gotten permission to proceed with various projects but had blatantly ignored all established practice by going ahead with the same.
"The construction of the Rayalaseema irrigation project and the expansion of the Pothireddipadu project are illegal as the National Green Tribunal and the KRMB had explicitly issued stay orders on the works. Despite these directives, the AP government has been continuing the related works illegally," the officials claimed.
Several ministers, Chief Secretary Somesh Kumar, Special Secretary (Irrigation) Rajat Kumar, Engineer-in-Chief Muralidhar and various other officials attended the meeting.
