Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao today urged the Centre to give funds for conducting the Krishna Pushkaralu.
In a letter addressed to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the Chief Minister said that it was estimated that Rs 802.19 crores would be needed for the Krishna pushakaralu celebrations beginning Aug 12 in the State, and sought that the Centre give Rs 601.65 crores for the event under the One-Time Central Assistance head to help States celebrate big events of national importance.
The Krishna river, which spanned 281 km in Telangana, was one of the most sacred rivers in India, KCR noted. The Telangana government had therefore decided to conduct the Krishna pushkaralu in a grand manner on the lines of the Godavari pushkaralu, and significant funds were needed to construct bathing ghats and provide all necessary facilities during the event, he said.
He also apprised Modi that about 3.5 crore people from the two Telugu States, Karnataka and Maharastra would visit during the 12-day-long pushkaralu, and said that the State government had already sent the related details on the funds needed to the Union Finance ministry, and urged Modi to ensure their speedy release.
