In the wake of mounting protests against the Mallanna Sagar project in the Medak district, the State government today said that it would protect the interests of the farmers and offer suitable compensation.
"The needed land acquisition will be done as per the wishes of the farmers," Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao said.
In an official communiqué on Saturday, the Chief Minister said that the State government was ready to implement either the 2013 Act or GO No. 123 to acquire land. He left it to the farmers to decide any of the two options.
Those affected due to land acquisition under the project would also be compensated suitably, the Chief Minister said.
Earlier, KCR held a review meeting with Irrigation Minister T Harish Rao and officials, and discussed the need for land, the protests by the Opposition, and TDP's Revanth Reddy's fast at Etigaddapadu near the project that some of the villagers came out in support for.
KCR also discussed on the land to be acquired and asked the officials to expedite the process by convincing the farmers through suitable compensation.
"We must acquire the land as per the opinion and wishes of the farmers," he said in the meeting.
Experts reportedly felt that the farmers would be on the losing end if they preferred the 2013 Land Acquisition Act to get compensation.
