Telangana TDP working president A Revanth Reddy today began his 48-hour hunger strike in support of those whose lands will be acquired against their wishes for the Mallanna Sagar project at Ettigadda Kistapur.
Thousands of farmers had been agitating for the last two months as the government was trying to acquire their lands forcibly, he alleged, and said he had launched the fast demanding justice for the victims of the land acquisition drive for the project.
Before leaving for the fasting venue, Reddy performed puja at the Peddamma temple at Hyderabad.
Speaking to the media, the TDP leader said that the State government was not bothered about protecting the villagers who were about to lose their fertile lands to the project. The villagers were not willing to leave their villages unless the State government rendered justice, he said. The government was trying to acquire the lands of poor farmers under GO 123, he alleged, when the villagers' wanted that their lands should be acquired under the 2013 Land Acquisition Act.
