Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao announced a Rs. 500 crore grant to the state police force for the creation of modern infrastructure, purchase of new vehicles etc.
The Chief Minister made this announcement at the first state-level police conference of Sub-Inspector to DGP level officers at HICC on Friday.
Home Minister Nayani Narasimha Reddy, DGP Anurag Sharma and other senior police officers were present.
The CM had several words of praise for the Telangana police force. Recalling the apprehensions expressed during the movement for statehood for Telangana, KCR spoke of how propaganda was put out that the naxalite menace would escalate resulting in law and order problems if a separate state was created. However, all those claims and apprehensions were proven absolutely unfounded in the new state thanks to the excellent work being done by the state police, he said to thunderous applause.
The Chief Minister also pointed out that for the development of a state, industrial growth should happen at a high rate, and for investors law and order was an important factor. And that was the reason that today many investors were coming forward to invest in Telangana - the excellent law and order situation in the state.
He also added that during his visits to New Delhi the PM, Home Minister and other central leaders always appreciated the excellent work being done by the Telangana police.
KCR called upon the police officers, especially at the SI level, to ensure that the areas under their jurisdiction were free of racketeers, adulteration, illicit distillation, gudamba, matka etc. He also stressed on the need for ensuring the protection and security of women. In this regard he appreciated the work being done by the SHE Teams headed by Swati Lakra.
KCR also wanted steps to be taken to improve and modernize the conditions in the police stations, and wanted the setting up of reception counters to deal with the day to day issues of the people coming for redressal. The police should, through their attitude and demeanour, earn the goodwill of the common man, who should consider the man or woman in khaki as a god, he said.
The Chief Minister also announced that incentives and awards would be given to the police stations based on their performance. He also wanted all the police personnel to boldly and fearlessly give any suggestions with regard to their needs and to improving the policing.
The Chief Minister said that the sanctioned unfilled posts for the police department in the state were 68,000, and steps had already been taken for the recruitment of 12,000 personnel. The government would soon issue orders for recruitment of another 15,000 personnel.
He also wanted the DGP and the Commissioners to ensure that the deserving ones among the Home Guards were drafted into police posts, and the conditions for the Home Guards were improved.
