In a major decision, Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao today announced that fertilizers would be given free of cost to farmers in the state from the next financial year.
The Chief Minister held a meeting with farmers at "Jana Hitha" at his camp office and promised to help them get 26 lakh tons of fertilizers free of cost by remitting Rs 4,000 into each farmer's bank account.
The government would allot funds for this in the next Assembly budget session, he announced amid applause.
About 55 lakh Telangana farmers would benefit from this decision, the Chief Minister announced. A total of five bags of fertilizers would be supplied to each farmer including urea and potash, he said.
He announced that there would be no power problem for the farmers in the future, either.
Expressing concern at the pathetic conditions of the farmers, KCR attributed it to the negligence of the previous governments. In addition to benefiting from the TRS government's support, he also asked the farmers to make use of the latest technologies to reap benefits.
