BRS MLC Kalvakuntla Kavitha appeared before the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in New Delhi again today for the recording of her statement in the Delhi liquor policy-linked money laundering case.
This is the third time that Kavitha has appeared before the ED in connection with the case.
She arrived at the ED office at around 11:30 am along with her husband Anil and her advocates.
As she was heading into the agency's office, Kavitha displayed a bag of phones to her supporters and the media, claiming that they were evidence that she planned to present.
In the wake of the ED's allegations that she had destroyed several phones used by her, Kavitha wrote a letter to ED Assistant Director Jogender that in continuation of her due assistance to and cooperation with the investigating authorities, she was submitting all the cellphones that she had used in the past.
However, she said that the phones were being submitted without prejudice to her rights and contentions including her right to privacy.
"I may take this opportunity to point out glaring act of malice on part of the agency when it has chosen to make insinuations against me in the prosecution complaint filed qua some other accused in November 2022, alleging that certain phones stand destroyed. It is baffling to note as to how, why and under what circumstances, the agency made such allegations when I was not even summoned or asked any questions (sic)," Kavitha wrote.
She pointed out that she was summoned by the ED for the first time in March 2023, and hence the accusations made against her in November 2022 were not only mala fide and misconceived, but also prejudicial.
She further said that deliberate leakage of the false accusation to the public had led to a political slugfest, with her political adversaries flaunting the accusations to damage her reputation and defame her as well as the BRS.
"It is unfortunate that a premier agency like the Enforcement Directorate is becoming privy and party to these acts, and sabotaging and sacrificing its sacrosanct duty of free and fair investigation at the altar of vested political interests," Kavitha said.
The BRS leader has claimed that there is a political plot behind the ED's summons, and that she was summoned by the agency based on statements made under duress and coercion. Her party leaders have also claimed that the probe agency has become an extension of the Bharatiya Janata Party.
