Hyderabad | 8th April 2011
The Congress has forwarded the names of D L Ravindra Reddy, as its nominee for the Kadapa Lok Sabha constituency, and that of Agriculture Minister Y S Vivekananda Reddy, for the Pulivendula Assembly constituency.
Speaking to mediapersons at the Chief Minister's Camp Office at Begumpet, Congress Spokesperson Tulasi Reddy said that once the High Command approves the names, the 2 candidates will file their nomination papers on April 15th and 16th, for the Kadapa Lok Sabha and Pulivendula Assembly constituencies, respectively.
Tulasi Reddy expressed confidence that Ravindra Reddy would win the Kadapa seat.
The Congress Spokesperson also said that the candidates have ample time to file their nomination papers, and would do so only after the Congress High Command approves their names.
Tulasi Reddy said the delay in announcing the proposed candidature was not because of the lack of candidates willing to take on Jaganmohan Reddy, but because the Congress has an abundance of leaders.
He also said that the TDP was in a hurry to announce the names of its candidates since Chandrababu Naidu was to leave for Tamil Nadu to campaign, and Jaganmohan Reddy has announced his candidature since he is the head of his party.
Earlier, immediately after the powerful Kandula brothers formally joined the Congress party on Thursday, the party High Command had considered nominating Kandula Rajamohan Reddy for the Kadapa Lok Sabha constituency seat. Rajamohan Reddy had earlier given a tough fight to former Chief Minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy, who had won the Kadapa Lok Sabha seat in 1996 by a slender margin of 5,000 votes. (INN)
