Campaigning for Congress' candidate for the Kadapa Lok Sabha seat D L Ravindra Reddy on Tuesday, Chief Minister Kiran Kumar Reddy addressed a large gathering in Proddatur, Kadapa.
As has been the norm with every other campaign speech made in Kadapa by political parties over the past few weeks, KKR's speech also revolved around the late Y S Rajasekhar Reddy, who was a Congress leader during his lifetime.
He informed those gathered that YSR was a sincere Congress leader who relentlessly worked for the development of the Congress party, and that the Congress High Command had given YSR the position of the Chief Minister of the state in recognition of his efforts for the upliftment of the poor and his service to the party.
"Even YSR had to wait for 25 years to get the CM seat, and his son Jagan wishes to be declared the CM immediately after entering the political scene. Besides, the YSR Congress Party has no defined manifesto," said KKR of Y S Jaganmohan Reddy, the major contender for the Kadapa Lok Sabha seat.
He then went on to list the various schemes that the Congress party had introduced for the benefit of the general public. He said that Rs. 198 crores was set aside to provide scholarships for 4.5 lakhs students belonging to SC, ST, BC and minority communities.
He also revealed that the Congress government had cleared those engaged in the manufacturing of handicrafts of having to repay a loan of Rs. 109 crores taken from banks.
He stated that his government was providing many essential commodities at subsidised rates, and that a 50% subsidy was being given on electricity prices.
He also promised that all those who did not receive the financial help they were entitled to under the various schemes of the governemt would be paid accordingly after the completion of the by-elections.
