In a clear indication that it is not willing to take any chances, the Pradesh Congress Committee on Sunday entrusted the responsibility of capturing the Kadapa Lok Sabha and Pulivendula Assembly constituencies to 7 ministers.
The ministers have been entrusted the responsibility after a crucial meeting which took place at the Chief Minister's Camp Office as part of discussing the strategy to effectively tackle former MP Y S Jaganmohan Reddy and to intensify the election campaign for the Kadapa Parliamentary and Pulivendula Assembly constituencies.
PCC president D Srinivas and Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy confabulated and decided to name Housing and Cooperation Minister Kanna Lakshminarayana as overall in-charge for the Kadapa Parliamentary constituency, Finance Minister Anam Ramnarayana Reddy for the Pulivendula Assembly constituency, Transport Minister Botsa Satyanarayana for Jammalamadugu, Roads and Buildings Minister Dharmana Prasad for Mydhukuru, Revenue Minister Raghuveera Reddy for Kamalapur, Minor Irrigation Minister T G Venkatesh for Produttur, and Municipal and Urban Development Minister Maheedhar Reddy for Badwale.
The Chief Minister and the PCC chief have asked the Ministers to look after the constituencies and make all efforts to ensure the Congress candidates' win in the by-elections.
This was hinted at before media persons after the crucial meeting by Transport Minister Botsa Satyanarayana outside the Camp Office. Satyanarayana stated that the meeting took a decision to go to the people with former chief minister YSR's schemes, during the by-elections.
Giving further details, the Transport Minister said that the meeting was attended by Information and Public Relations Minister D K Aruna, Minister for Secondary Education K Parthasarathy, former minister Shabbir Ali and MLC Mohamad Jani, apart from himself.
The meeting lasted two and half hours.
Satyanarayana expressed confidence that the people would vote for the Congress candidate after taking into account the performance of the government.
The meeting also took a decision not to raise a malicious campaign against YSR and the corruption that took place during his tenure, as it would help former Kadapa MP Y S Jaganmohan Reddy.
Reacting to Jaganmohan Reddy's laying claim to the welfare schemes launched by YSR, the minister stated that the former chief minister had only implemented the schemes envisaged by the Congress, schemes which were mentioned in the party's election manifesto. (INN)
