After a long wait of over three years, Kollapur MLA Jupally Krishna Rao finally turns minister again, a position he resigned from in October 2011 for the cause of Telangana statehood.
Jupally, a five-time MLA from the Kollapur constituency of the Mahabubnagar district, was inducted as a minister into the Cabinet of Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao on Tuesday.
Born on August 10, 1955, Jupally began his political career in 1981 after resigning from his job as a bank employee. He got elected from the Kollapur constituency on a Congress ticket in 1999. However, he contested and won as an independent in the 2004 elections and returned to the Congress fold in the 2009 elections.
He served as a minister in the cabinets of Dr Y S Rajasekhara Reddy and N Kiran Kumar Reddy. However, during the peak of the Telangana agitation in March 2011, he resigned from Kiran Kumar Reddy's cabinet. On October 12, 2011, he also resigned from the post of MLA and from the Congress, and joined the TRS on October 30, 2011.
Jupally got re-elected on a TRS ticket in the by-elections held in March 2012, and retained the seat with a huge majority in the 2014 general elections. He was unexpectedly left out when KCR constituted his Cabinet on June 2 this year. But the Mahabubnagar strongman has been given a berth during the Cabinet's first expansion. (INN)
