Former Indian cricket captain Mohd Azharuddin was today inducted into the Telangana Cabinet after taking oath at a ceremony conducted by Governor Jishnu Dev Varma at Raj Bhavan.
Chief Minister Revanth Reddy and several Cabinet colleagues were present at the event and extended their congratulations to the former cricketer.
Following the ceremony, Azharuddin expressed gratitude for the opportunity to serve as a minister.
"My parents and family are very happy to see me as a minister. I am grateful to the Congress high command, the Chief Minister and the State Congress leaders for this opportunity. All allegations against me are untrue. Union Minister Kishan Reddy does not have a complete understanding of me. The criticisms made by BJP and BRS leaders are incorrect. My immediate goal is to ensure the Congress' victory in the Jubilee Hills elections," Azharuddin said.
Azharuddin's induction marks the second Cabinet expansion since the Congress government assumed office in December 2023. Three MLAs had been sworn in as ministers earlier in June. With this addition, two Cabinet berths still remain vacant.
