Hyderabad | 25th December 2010
JNTU's VC, Prof. D Narasimha Reddy, called upon graduating officers, on Friday, to meet technological challenges and channelize the technical know-how to perceive, organize and supervise the provisioning of engineering support to the wide range of army equipment.
Addressing the convocation ceremony of the 14th Technical Entry Scheme course being conducted by the MCEME at Secunderabad, he asked the officers to have a thorough knowledge of new technologies, as they would be applied widely in a changing environment.
He advised the officers to harness these technologies for the army, and face new challenges with courage and determination.
"There is a global need to reduce manpower in the defense sector. This calls for large-scale automation and deployment of more sophisticated systems and weapons," he pointed out.
He said the officers play a very important role in combat, by applying systems and equipment to provide the highest quality of engineering support to the army. Optimum engineering support has 3 main facets - it must be provided in the least possible time, at the least possible cost, and must be capable of operating in any environment - he added.
A total of 26 officers graduated in the 14th Technical Entry Scheme course, and were awarded a B. Tech degree from Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi.
The VC conferred the DGEME Gold medal on Lieutenant Prabal Tandon, the Commandant's Silver Medal (Mechanical Engineering stream) on Lt. Vikas Singh, and the Commandant's Silver Medal (Electronics Engineering stream) on Lt. Arun Kumar and Yadav. The GOC-in-C ARTRAC Trophy (Best All-Round Student Officer of the TES-14 course) was awarded to Lt. Prabal Tandon.
Major General P K Jaggia, commandant, MCEME, also spoke on the occasion.
