Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader and Telangana Agitation Committee chairman Rajeswara Rao on Saturday alleged that though the government was spending thousands of crores of rupees on irrigation projects, farmers living on the periphery of the projects were deprived of water.
The BJP leaders have taken up 'Project Bata' and visited various irrigation projects taken up under 'Jalayagnam'.
Talking to media persons during his party's 'Project Bata', the BJP leader alleged that the cost of the projects under 'Jalayagnam' was being deliberately escalated through a nexus between officials and political leaders.
The leaders said that farmers in Karimnagar district were deprived of even drinking water, let alone water for irrigation, though the massive 'Jalayagnam' project was being taken up by the State government.
The BJP team inspected various irrigation projects and studied their progress. The team alleged that rampant corruption and irregularities had taken root in the execution of irrigation projects and sought comprehensive probe into the entire issue.
Rao urged the government to provide relief for those villagers, whose lands had been submerged in the backwaters of the irrigation projects and also provide alternative land for the victims.
The BJP leader also alleged that both the TDP and Congress had failed to undertake irrigation projects in the Telangana region.
Rao said the Telangana Agitation Committee would intensify its agitation against corruption and irregularities in all irrigation projects in Telangana region.
