Alleging that Major Irrigation Minister Ponnala Lakshmaiah was diverting the attention of chief minister K Rosaiah from the allegations of irregularities in Jalayagnam project works, senior Telangana Congress leader Palvai Govardhan on Monday demanded an inquiry into the allegations.
Talking to media persons at Gandhi Bhavan, Palvai said that the allegations of irregularities to the tune of crores of rupees in the works under the Jalayagnam irrigation projects are very serious, and that a probe would clear the air of mistrust.
Expressing concern over the tardy pace of works in Jalayagnam, he urged the government to ensure that the projects are completed in a time-bound manner.
Palvai expressed his anger over the release of water to Pothireddypadu project from the Nagarjunasagar project even before the water level had reached the maximum level. He said that the release of waters from the Nagarjuna Sagar project is a clear violation of the water-sharing agreement reached between Rayalaseema and coastal Andhra regions.
He also defended the reported statements of Praja Rajyam Party president K Chiranjeevi against Kadapa M P Y S Jaganmohan Reddy over the amassing of wealth. Chiranjeevi has already issued a clarification denying that his target was the Kadapa MP.
"The high command has the details of all leaders. If anybody commits a mistake, the high command will initiate disciplinary action against them at an appropriate time," he stated.
