Nearly 10,000 shops in the twin cities belonging to the community remained closed in protest against the banning of Santhara by the Rajasthan High Court.
The Jain community in the city observed "Jain Bharat Bandh" by shutting their shops and establishments on Monday in protest against the Rajasthan High Court's order prohibiting "Santhara" (the ritual of fasting unto death).
Nearly 10,000 shops in the twin cities that belonged to the Jain community remained closed for the day as a mark of protest against the banning of Santhara by the court.
The community's people, including women in large numbers, took out an peace rally from Vishwakarma Bhavan, Secunderabad, to Paigah Palace Function Hall at Patigadda.
The rally was organised in response to the Bharat Bandh called by the Jain community across the country.
A mass meeting was held at Paigah Plaza Function Hall in which noted sadhus (saints) and others strongly opposed the Rajasthan High Court's orders.
