Pulling a big surprise, YSRCP President Y S Jaganmohan Reddy took to Hindi in the last leg of his campaigning for the April 30 elections, and exhorted that people's welfare was the hallmark of YSRCP's politics.
"We need to change this system and bring in value-based politics. We play the politics of people's welfare unlike others who come during the elections and drift away after the polls, never to be seen till the next elections," he said.
In a whirlwind campaign of the twin cities and its outskirts, Jagan said, "There is a need to bring a change in the political system which has now stooped to new lows and is having only votes and seats as its sole consideration.
"We need to change this system and bring in value-based politics. We play the politics of people's welfare, unlike others who come during the elections and drift away after the polls, never to be seen till the next elections.
"I appeal to you to vote for the YSRCP's fan symbol and elect candidates who will work for your welfare," he said, and introduced the Khairatabad YSRCP assembly candidate Vijaya Reddy, who is the daughter of PJR, a known figure in the area. "She will be a real good MLA and work for your welfare," he said.
"I am sure of coming to power in Seemandhra, and in Telangana too we will come to power in the next election if not in this one," he said, drawing a big round of applause.
"When you go to vote, remember YSR and his welfare schemes. Others may make empty promises, but when we come to power we will give houses along with pattas and make every welfare scheme a meaningful one," he said.
Though he began his speech at the Khairatabad constituency in his inimitable style of thanking the people for waiting for him in the scorching heat, upon the suggestion of Vijaya Reddy, he switched to Hindi, taking everyone by surprise. (INN)
