In an open letter to Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu, the Leader of the Opposition in Andhra Pradesh Assembly and YSR Congress Party president Y S Jaganmohan Reddy asked the former not to send him an invitation for the foundation-laying ceremony of Amaravathi, the State's new capital.
In a letter faxed to the Chief Minister, Jagan stated, "Do not send me an invitation. I will not attend the function even if I receive it."
Jagan stated that there were eight reasons for his deciding to not attend the function. Some of them were:
1. taking over of the fertile lands of poor farmers without their consent 2. implementation of prohibitory orders under Section 144 CrPC in the proposed new capital city 3. neglect of green tribunal orders and people's sentiments
He also alleged that the government was not building a people's capital but engaging in a real estate business.
Since the whole initiative was against the interests of the people, the YSR Congress Party was opposed to attending the foundation-laying ceremony for the new capital at Amaravathi, he said.
