Popular Telugu film actor and Jana Sena founder-president Pawan Kalyan on Sunday visited some areas forming the Amaravathi capital area where the TDP government is planning to acquire farm lands for the development of the new Andhra Pradesh capital.
Kalyan attended a farmers' meeting organized at the government college at Penumaka under the Tadepalli mandal of the Guntur district.
Earlier, Kalyan also inspected agricultural lands on his way to Penumaka via Undavalli.
The actor interacted with many farmers, who expressed their resentment against the government's plan to take over their fertile lands.
The farmers told the Jana Sena president that they did not want to hand over their lands which gave them three crops in a year, and that the package announced by the AP government was a pittance.
They also apprised the star that the government officials and ministers were coercing them into surrendering their lands, saying that the government would at least pay adequate compensation, while they could get much lower if the lands were taken over under the Land Acquisition Act.
The farmers urged Kalyan to talk to the government and do the needful.
Many farmers also told Kalyan that they would need to commit suicides as there would be no alternative for them if the government appropriated their lands forcibly.
They also submitted a representation to Kalyan.
