Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y S Jaganmohan Reddy today launched the house patta distribution program in Komaragiri of East Godavari district.
Speaking on the occasion, he said that he was fortunate to be able to launch such a beneficial program on the auspicious occasion of Christmas and Vaikunta Ekadasi.
The CM then explained that the AP government had taken up the program not only to fulfil an election-time promise but also to help the poor people of the state fulfil their dream of owning homes.
"During my padayatra, I was able to see first-hand the problems of the homeless people of my state. We have launched our housing scheme across the 175 Assembly constituencies to ensure that these people do not have to face any more housing-related problems in the future. It is aimed at benefitting 1.24 crore people of the state," the CM said.
He added that the government would take up the construction of 28 lakh houses under the program.
"15 lakh houses will be built in the first phase of the housing scheme's implementation. The construction of the remaining 13 lakh houses houses will be completed in the second phase," Reddy promised.
The CM also said that the patta distributions were happy occasions and would therefore be carried out in a festival-like atmosphere for 15 days.
