Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao and his AP counterpart Y S Jaganmohan Reddy today attended a ritual of the Visakhapatnam Sarada Peetham, in Vijayawada.
Peetham head Swaroopanandendra Saraswati anointed Kiran Kumar Sharma (26) as his successor to head the peetham on the last day of a three-day event at the Ganapathi Sachchidananda ashram on the banks of the river Krishna. With this the young seer, renamed Swatmanandendra Saraswati now, takes up the Sanyasasrama deeksha, and will follow the tradition of the Visakha Sarada Peetham.
Both the Chief Ministers participated in the coronation of Kiran Kumar Sharma. They also offered silk clothes, fruits and flowers to the seer.
The head pontiff said that Sharma would be offered the full-fledged powers of the peetham head in 2024.
Seers from several other peethams, religious/spiritual personalities, political leaders and others attended the event.
AP endowments minister V Srinivasa Rao offered prasadams from the main temples to Swaroopanandendra Saraswati as the young seer offered him flowers.
