Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y S Jaganmohan Reddy today expressed his anger at the "smear campaign" being carried out against the Polavaram irrigation project.
Speaking at a review meeting with the concerned officials, Reddy said that those who were against the YSR Congress Party government were carrying out the "misinformation campaign", and had been claiming that the height of the project was being reduced.
The CM clarified that there was no question of reducing the project's height, and that the full reservoir level of the project would be 45.72 metres.
He also instructed the officials to expedite the project's completion at the earliest so that it could be used to provide water to farmers for Kharif crops by the end of 2022.
Further, assuring those displaced by the dam that the state government would not abandon them, Reddy asked the officials to take up the rehabilitation program for the displaced at the earliest.
Before the review meeting, the CM inspected the project through an aerial survey. Irrigation minister Anil Kumar also accompanied him during the visit.
