The Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) on Monday successfully launched eight satellites into orbit using the PSLV C35 launch vehicle, from the Satish Dhawan Space Centre at Sriharikota in Andhra Pradesh.
ISRO set a record launch time of two hours and fifteen minutes with this mission.
The main payload (satellite) in this mission is the SCATSAT-1 which will provide weather forecast, and cyclone detection and tracking.
The mission is being hailed as monumental because a consortium of satellites built by ISRO, Indian universities and three nations (Algeria, Canada and the US) have been launched into two separate orbits in a single go via a single rocket.
The launch was attended by Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu, and several other important politicians and experts in the field.
Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao called up the control centre at Sriharikota and expressed his happiness over the launch. He congratulated the team of scientists behind the success and described the achievement as a milestone in satellite technology.
