Several Luminaries Including CM, KCR Condole Death Of Shanti Swaroop

CM Revanth Reddy, KCR, Chandrababu Naidu and Kishan Reddy were among those who expressed shock and grief at the Doordarshan newsreader's passing.

Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy today expressed grief over the death of Telugu TV's first newsreader, on Doordarshan, Shanti Swaroop, and conveyed his condolences to the bereaved family members.

Swaroop breathed his last while undergoing treatment at Yashoda Hospital in Hyderabad on Friday.

The departed journalist was admitted to Yashoda Hospital two days ago due to a heart ailment.

Swaroop worked as a newsreader from 1983 for nearly three decades till his retirement in 2011.

The CM recalled the services rendered by the newsreader to the Telugu media, and said that he prayed God for the departed soul to rest in peace.

Former CM and BRS president K Chandrashekar Rao, and TDP chief and former AP CM Chandrababu Naidu also condoled the demise of Swaroop.

Union Minister and BJP State president G Kishan Reddy also expressed his grief. "I am deeply saddened to learn that Shanti Swaroop passed away due to ill-health. As an icon of Telugu TV news, he had carved a niche for himself. He has been an inspiration to many news readers," Reddy said.

Minister Ponnam Prabhakar too expressed shock over the death of Swaroop. He said that the noted newreader's name was an inspiration for today's youth. "I pray to God that his soul rest in peace, and my deepest condolences to his family," Prabhakar said.
