Telangana Political JAC Chairman M Kodandaram on Wednesday slammed Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao rather aggressively alleging that the latter's government was grabbing lands from the people in a way strikingly similar to how slain mafia kingpin Mohammed Nayeemuddin had done.
Addressing a convention at Sundaraiah Vignana Kendram for people displaced due to irrigation projects, Kodandaram said that although projects were necessary for Telangana's development, there was simultaneously a need to hold deliberations with the concerned people with perfect plan. Without consent, there was no difference between Nayeem and KCR, he opined.
He warned the TRS government that the JAC would organise a dharna at Indira Park during the Assembly's winter session in case the government failed to fulfill his demands, and urged farmers to attend the protest.
The convention passed seven resolutions: The State government shall not acquire lands from farmers forcibly for any reason; The government shall not threaten the farmers for lands; It shall produce Detailed Project Reports (DPR) before proposing land acquisition; If acquired, it shall compensate farmers as per the latter's demands, and Central government norms (Land Acquisition Act, 2013); The government shall give lands to landless farmers in the event of an acquisition; It shall declare oustees as project beneficiaries; The government shall not back out from compensating, regardless of the type of land.
