The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Monday issued a Flash Flood Risk (FFR) alert for Telangana for the next 24 hours.
In the forecast, it said that the watersheds in the districts of Bhadradri Kothagudem, Khammam, Adilabad, Bhuvanagiri, Asifabad, Mancherial, Nirmal, Warangal, Peddapally Karimnagar, Rajanna Sircilla, Jayashankar Bhupalpalle, Mulugu, Jagtial, Mahabubabad and Jangaon were at moderate to high risk of flash floods during the next 24 hours.
According to the IMD, the cyclonic storm Gulab has now intensified into a deep depression, and is located at 18.4 degrees north latitude and 82.8 degrees east longitude, around 110 km north of Jagdalpur and 140 km east of Kalingapatnam.
Owing to this, Telangana is very likely to have heavy to very heavy rains, with extremely heavy rain in a few districts of the state.
"During the next 24 hours Telangana is likely to have winds of 30-40 kmph, going up to 45 kmph," said K Nagarathna, Scientist in the Meteorological Centre, Hyderabad.
She further said the deep depression was moving towards the west at a speed of 14 kmph this morning.
Sushant Kumar Behera, Team Commandant, NDRF, told the media that after the cyclone there was a chance of a flash flood, and that his team was ready for any situation.
"The Kalingapatnam area is vulnerable. When Cyclone Gulab made landfall here, many trees were uprooted and roads were blocked. Since yesterday our team has been clearing the roads. Today too we removed two trees from the roads. The landfall was not intense and we did not evacuate any people, but after the cyclone a flood situation may arise and we may evacuate people. Our team is ready to handle any situation," said Behera.
