Hyderabad | 14th July 2022
Telangana Chief Secretary Somesh Kumar today said that the State government was taking all possible precautions to prevent any loss of lives and to minimise the damage due to the heavy rains in the State.

He said that Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao was continuously monitoring the situation, and that officers were working non-stop at the field level across the State.

The CS held a meeting and took stock of the situation arising from the incessant rains over the last few days and the rising water levels in the river Godavari, at BRKR Bhavan today.

"The special focus is now on Mulugu, Bhupalpally and Bhadrachalam districts due to the heavy discharges affecting them. The low-lying areas have been identified and the situation is being continuously monitored on an hourly basis," Kumar said.

The CS said that of around 19,071 people shifted to 223 special camps in the State, 6,318 persons had been shifted to 43 camps in Bhadrachalam, 4,049 persons to 33 camps in Mulugu and 1,226 persons to 20 camps in Bhupalpally.

16 persons had been rescued by the NDRF while another two were airlifted by the Indian Air Force so far, he added.

He added that seven NDRF teams had been deployed for the districts, of which three were in Bhadrachalam and two each were in Mulugu and Bhupalpally.

During the meeting, officials said that the IMD had predicted a tapering off of the rains. The met predicted light rainfall in 9 districts, very light rains in another 10 districts, and no rainfall in the remaining districts, they said. The situation in most of the districts was normal, and no major incidents had been reported from any district, they added.

Secretary of Disaster Management Rahul Bojja and other officials attended the meeting.
