HYDRA (Hyderabad Disaster Response and Asset Protection Agency), which has been cracking down on the encroachers of FTL and buffer zone areas of rivers and tanks, on Sunday carried out more demolitions.
HYDRA officials reached the Ameenpur Pedda Cheruvu area and demolished illegal structures constructed in the FTL and buffer zones.
The officials found that the tank had shrunk due to the encroachments.
A large number of policemen had been deployed to prevent any kind of tension in the area.
A compound wall constructed in the FTL was demolished by the officials. According to reports, the compound wall belongs to YSRCP leader from Andhra Pradesh Katasani Rambhupal Reddy. It is learnt that he had purchased 20 acres of land in the area a few years ago and built a compound wall around it. However, the compound wall was found to be in the FTL and buffer zone. Keeping this in mind, the demolition was carried out by the officials.
In another incident, authorities demolished villas constructed in violation of norms in the FTL and buffer zone of the Mallampet Karwa tank under the Dundigal municipality limits.
HYDRA officials carried out the demolition of Lakshmi Srinivasa Construction villas in Mallampet.
A large number of police personnel were deployed in the area.
The local Tahsildar Matin said that the government had identified more than 20 unauthorised villas in the Mallampet tank.
"For now, we are demolishing seven villas. The remaining villas will be evacuated and demolished. Notices will be issued to their owners as per the mark prescribed by the department," he said.
HYDRA also carried similar demolitions in the Madhapur-based Sunnam Cheruvu area. The locals tried to block the demolitions, with the owners of the houses getting angry that the demolitions were being carried out without their being informed. They alleged that goods worth crores of rupees were destroyed due to the demolitions.
