GHMC Commissioner Somesh Kumar on Thursday informed that nearly one lakh CC cameras would be installed in the city before the commencement of the World Metropolis Congress to be held in October this year.
He was addressing the workshop on the Public Safety Act 2013-14 organised jointly by the GHMC and the police department.
He said that it would be compulsory for establishments where 100 or more people gathered regularly, to install CCTV cameras for the safety of the customers / citizens.
He also said that CCTV cameras were cheaper compared to the past, and that the installation of CC cameras by the police in the recent past had brought down the crime rate in the city.
The GHMC Commissioner stated that all stakeholders needed to play an active role in making the city safe. He said that almost all the departments had participated in the interactive workshop and exchanged views over the implementation of the goal. The departments had also promised that they were preparing an action plan for the implementation.
Hyderabad Police Commissioner Mahender Reddy said that one CCTV camera could do the work of 12 constables in terms of surveillance. He informed that CCTV cameras would be installed in all the public places like temples, mosques, educational institutions, bus stops, malls, hotels and railway stations - wherever the public presence was more.
Cyberabad Police Commissioner C V Anand congratulated the GHMC Commissioner for taking lots of pains to get all the stakeholders together to create awareness about the Public Safety Act.
Several senior officials of the GHMC and police officials participated in the meeting. (INN)
