Special Drive Against Vehicles Fitted With Sirens

Upon the instructions of C V Anand, Commissioner of Police, Hyderabad, the Hyderabad traffic police have conducted a vigorous special drive against the owners of vehicles fitted with sirens.

In the last 12 days, the traffic police have booked 1,557 cases and removed the illegally fitted sirens on the transgressing vehicles.

The field officers also apprised the owners/drivers of the vehicles of the rules.

"The High Courts, in their orders/judgements, have instructed the police to take stringent action against those flouting laws related to horns and confiscate sirens / multi-toned horns of vehicles if found. The Hyderabad traffic police will file criminal cases against anyone indulging in violation of Rule 119 of the Central Motor Vehicles Rules, 1989. We request the owners of vehicles, especially cars/SUVs, to not fit/use sirens unauthorizedly, and wish to inform car d?cor owners that fitting of sirens / multi-toned horns is a violation of Section 52 of the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988. The Hyderabad traffic police also urge the drivers of authorized vehicles fitted with sirens to use the sirens sparingly and in case of emergency only," G Sudheer Babu, Additional Commissioner of Police (Traffic), Hyderabad, said.
